Do you require a static website for simplicity or speed or a more dynamic site? Is having low or no hosting costs a priority?
- Know your timeline. Do you have 6 weeks or 6 months? This can influence who to contact if their site says they book at least two months out, for example.
- Know your budget. Make sure you have funds allocated and don’t expect free work. Having a budget in mind can also narrow your search.
- Start your search. We’ve rounded up a list of top designers to get you started, but don’t forget about other popular talent platforms.
- Check out their work and clients. It’s not always important to have experience in your industry, but some clients appreciate when designers who have worked in the space before (health care, financial, etc.). If you have a specific look in mind, you’ll also want to make sure that the designer’s portfolio reflects it. For example, if you’re looking for an illustrator but their portfolios don’t have any illustration work or that skill listed on their profile, it might not be the right choice.
